Liam McDonald: Solihull Moors part company with manager by mutual agreement

Liam McDonald managed at Redditch and Hednesford before coming to Damson Park

National League side Solihull Moors have parted company with their manager Liam McDonald by mutual agreement.

The 32-year-old, who had been in charge for less than a year, departs with Solihull sitting 23rd in the table, with only eight points in 14 games.

The club say the decision followed "a string of disappointing results".

"Football is a results-driven business and, given the poor start to the season, it is right for me to hand over the reins," McDonald said.

"We have had a spate of injuries and many of our games have been very close. However, that is not good enough."

His departure comes 12 days after the departure of assistant boss Nick Green and coach David Bridgwater, who were also his backroom team at his previous clubs Hednesford Town and Redditch.

Coach Keith Bertschin and head of football Mark Fogarty will take charge of Saturday's home match against Hartlepool.

McDonald left Hednesford to join Solihull in November 2016, replacing Grimsby-bound Marcus Bignot, who had led Solihull into English football's fifth tier for the first time six months earlier.

He kept the Moors up, as well as enjoying an FA Cup upset when the Moors knocked out Yeovil Town.

"I am proud of keeping Moors in the National League," he said. "And I wish the players and everyone associated with the club the best for the future."

McDonald's departure means that all five current occupants of the National League's bottom five - Torquay, Solihull, Guiseley, Chester and Barrow - have already changed their manager since the start of the season.
