Jorge Grant gives Notts County the lead against Newport

Notts County moved to the top of League Two as they overpowered 10-man Newport County at Meadow Lane.

The game turned in two first-half minutes when Newport's Dan Butler was sent-off for elbowing an opponent and then Jorge Grant slid the ball past Joe Day to give Notts County the lead.

The Exiles reached the interval a goal behind, but Shola Ameobi doubled the lead in the 52nd minute.

A second goal for Grant killed the game off three minutes later.

Newport manager Mike Flynn: "I thought we were slightly the better team (before the sending off), we were getting crosses in t he box and we played some outstanding football when we were down to 10 men.

"I'm proud of the players, they kept going and it's unfortunate the game's been spoilt today.

"I've been told the player went in with excessive force, but I don't want to talk about the referee."
