Sam Stanton was the goal hero for Dundee United

Dundee United caretaker boss Laurie Ellis says he does not want the job full-time despite guiding his side to all three points against 10-man Dumbarton.

A first half double from Sam Stanton was enough to give United their first victory at this ground since 2013.

The hosts had Craig Barr sent off for two bookings, his second for diving.

After the match, 37-year-old Ellis said he is too young to be considered to replace the sacked Ray McKinnon.

Former Hibs player Stanton opened the scoring with a fine curling effort from 20 yards after two minutes and then finished off a well-worked corner to double United's lead.

Dumbarton were on the back foot and Billy King almost made it three for United, but he shot over from 18 yards.

Scott McDonald tried to get his name on the scoresheet midway through the second half but keeper Scott Gallagher did well to tip his shot over the bar.

Things went from bad to worse for the home-side when Barr was sent off.

And after the match, Ellis said: "I'm delighted for the boys to get the result.

"It's been a really difficult week. I love my job here but I'm still young and there's a lot involved in managing this football club."
