Stevenage 1-1 Notts County

  • Published

Elliott Hewitt's equaliser earned Notts County a point at Stevenage, as the Magpies maintained their position on top of League Two.

Second place Luton conceded a 97th minute equaliser away at Cheltenham which meant that although County could not find a winner, they remained on top.

Visiting goalkeeper Ross Fitzsimons was almost embarrassed, as he was beaten to Tom Pett's cross by Dan Newton, whose header bounced off the top of the bar.

Stevenage broke the deadlock seven minutes before half-time, as Shaun Brisley's header fell for Ronnie Henry, whose ball back into the box allowed Newton to finish into the bottom corner.

Jorge Grant sent a free-kick just over for the visitors before the break and Newton forced Fitzsimons into a save at his near post less than a minute into the second half.

The Magpies improved after the break and levelled when Grant passed the ball inside for Hewitt, who produced a good, measured finish beyond Joe Fryer.
