Former Airdrieonians boss Eddie Wolecki Black has been appointed manager of Motherwell Ladies.

Wolecki Black, 52, won four trebles in four years at Glasgow City - lifting the Scottish Women's Premier League title, Scottish Cup and Scottish League Cup each season.

The former Montrose boss has been out of management since suffering a stroke at Central Park in March 2016.

"I've been waiting for an opportunity to come back in," Wolecki Black said.

"I'd obviously been looking around and had been unsuccessful in one or two applications.

"But I was contacted by [Motherwell chief operating officer] Alan Burrows, we had some conversations, which have led to this day, so I'm very keen now just to get started."

Wolecki Black, who will be assisted by Donald Jennow, fell ill at half-time during his Airdrieonians side's League One meeting with Cowdenbeath last year.

He told BBC Scotland earlier this month: "My brain feels sharp. I can still watch football games; in fact, I do a wee bit of analysis for one or two people. I'm very thankful for that.

"It makes you think 'I can still do this job'. That gives me hope that I can still get back in the game at some point."

Wolecki Black's appointment is part of Motherwell's revamping of their girls and ladies set-up.

The club will now directly oversee its senior ladies team, with the MFC Community Trust continuing to administer the development pathway from under-10s upwards.

Motherwell Ladies currently compete in the second tier of the Scottish women's game, where they have been since winning promotion in 2016.

"I am absolutely delighted to welcome Eddie to the club and believe it's a huge coup for us to get him here," Burrows said.

"Not only is he a hugely respected and qualified coach with experience at various levels, I can see a real huge hunger and determination in him to get back involved.

"I'm delighted Motherwell can be a club that can give people the chance to get their lives back on track after a setback.

"I am certain Eddie will build on the fantastic progress already made within the ladies team as we strive for promotion to the top level."

Meanwhile, Scotland forward Fiona Brown has agreed to join FC Rosengard from fellow Swedish club Eskilstuna United.
