Jorge Grant scored with almost the last kick of the game to put Notts County into the FA Cup third round at the expense of non-league Oxford City.
After twice coming from behind, National League South side Oxford looked set to earn a second-round replay against the high-riding League Two side.
But, with the last play of the game, Jonathan Forte's header from Terry Hawkridge's cross was saved - and Notts top scorer Grant finished from close range at the far post.
Notts led on 31 minutes when Oxford failed to clear Carl Dickinson's cross into the box, allowing Richard Duffy to hook home from close range.
Straight after Notts were denied a second goal when Jon Stead hit the post, Rob Sinclair then levelled for the visitors on 53 minutes.
Within two minutes, Notts were back in front, Stead scoring from the penalty spot after Freddie Grant had brought down Hawkridge.
But Matt Paterson, scorer of Oxford's winner in the first round at Colchester, then struck again, firing in from close range.
Having beaten league opposition for the first time in their history in the previous round, the 274 travelling Oxford fans sensed another shock.
But, on a day when they were playing in round two of the FA Cup for only the second time in their history, the Oxford dreams were shattered in the dying seconds.
