  6. Can a cup run 'destroy' a league season?published at 17:45 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2017

A word of warning, though, for Hereford and any other lower-league club bidding for a long run in the FA Cup.

For many it is a financial lifeline which will secure their future for months - maybe even years - ahead.

That was certainly the case for eighth-tier Heybridge Swifts, who were knocked out by Exeter in round one.

They will benefit hugely from an enjoyable cup run, but it can have its pitfalls.

As BBC Sport's James Law found out, they had only played nine league games by the end of November and had as many as TWELVE matches in hand on some of their rivals.

Hereford manager Peter Beadle has been growing a beard during his side's FA Cup run this season and he says he won't shave it off until the Bulls are knocked out.

Well, the beard has survived for another week and a bit at least. Maybe even longer?
