Swansea City boss Paul Clement: 'My job is getting harder'

Swansea City head coach Paul Clement says his job at the Premier League's bottom club is getting harder with every defeat they suffer.

His side lost 3-1 at Everton to leave them with one win in 10.

Clement said: "Every game with each defeat it gets harder, but it doesn't affect my confidence and belief that we're going to get some good results."

The boss also said striker Wilfried Bony will miss festive games against Crystal Palace and Liverpool.

He was asked by BBC Radio Wales if he expected to make it to January as boss at Liberty Stadium.

"I'm just going to focus on that," he replied.

"Every day I do the same thing. I focus on trying to improve the players, improve the team and that won't change until I'm told any different."

Flight home cancelled

To add to Swansea's woes, their late Monday night flight home was cancelled because of bad weather, so they had to spend an extra night at a hotel.

That completed a miserable evening after Bony suffered a hamstring injury early in a game in which Leroy Fer scored the opener.

But Dominic Calvert-Lewin equalised after Wayne Rooney missed from the penalty spot. Ex-Swan Gylfi Sigurdsson then struck from long range before Rooney added a third with his second penalty of the night.

Clement was pleased with his side's first-half display, but was all too aware that three wins, three draws and 12 defeats has put his side a perilous position.

Bony - 'minimum 10 days out'

They host Palace on Saturday, 23 December, then go to Anfield on Boxing Day and Clement does not expect Bony to be in his plans.

"You get a hamstring injury, it's minimum going to be 10 days out," said Clement.

"Could be worse than that, but we'll see when we get the scan done."

The former Bayern Munich assistant manager added: "We've got to focus on getting a good performance from the players against Crystal Palace."

'Strange how football works

He also lamented the fact Sigurdsson was among the scorers, as former captain Jack Cork had been when Swansea lost at Burnley on 18 November.

"It's strange how football works," said Clement.

"We know he's [Sigurdsson] got great quality. It was sad to see that Jack was the goalscorer against us for Burnley and Gylfi tonight.

"But we focus on the next game and then hopefully get a couple of good players to improve this team [in January]."
