Scottish League One: Ayr and Raith win, Forfar further adrift

Scottish League One leaders Ayr United got back to winning ways with a convincing 5-1 defeat of Stranraer.

Lawrence Shankland and Alan Forrest each scored twice for Ayr, who had lost at home to Forfar Athletic on Saturday.

Second-placed Raith Rovers stayed two points off the leaders by beating East Fife 3-2.

Albion Rovers and Airdrieonians drew 2-2, as did Alloa Athletic and Queen's Park, while Arbroath beat hosts Forfar 1-0.

Shankland's header and Michael Moffat's strike put Ayr in command by half-time against Stranraer and Forrest struck either side of Shankland's second goal, a shot from inside the box.

Kyle Turner fired a late reply from the hosts.

Raith Rovers, who have taken Celtic defender Regan Hendry, 19, on loan until the end of the season and extended 35-year-old goalkeeper Graeme Smith's contract until the end of the season, were twice pegged back by East Fife.

Scott Robertson's strike was cancelled out by Kyle Wilkie's header and Liam Buchanan nodded the visitors back in front only for Scott Linton to level with a free-kick.

Dario Zanatta fired the Kirkcaldy side back into the lead and this time the Fifers could not recover.

Forfar's survival hopes had been boosted by their surprise weekend win at Somerset Park, but they slipped two points behind Queen's Park after Leighton McIntosh's first-half strike gave Arbroath victory at Station Park and moved the visitors above Stranraer into fourth place.

Queen's Park fell behind early against Alloa when Ross Stewart struck, but Luke Donnelly's shot restored parity and the Spiders' Adam Cummins converted a penalty after David Galt had been fouled by Andy Graham.

The lead lasted until the 85th minute, when Kris Renton fired the Wasps level again for a point apiece.

It was a similar story at Cliftonhill, which had survived a morning pitch inspection.

Alan Trouten scored from close range to give Albion Rovers the lead, but neighbours Airdrie then netted twice as Willis Furtado's strike was followed by Dean Cairns' header.

However, Albion Rovers got a late equaliser with Scott McLaughlin firing home in added time.
