Frazier Campbell's third goal of the season was enough for Hull City to see off Bolton
Struggling Hull City ended a run of five consecutive away defeats after Frazier Campbell's goal continued Bolton's miserable Championship form.
Campbell scored the only goal in a flat game, devoid of much quality, having met a Kamil Grosicki cross from the right to thump home from close range after seven minutes.
It was the Tigers' third win in 21 matches in all competitions, but victory still leaves Nigel Adkins' side second bottom of the table and two points from safety.
Phil Parkinson's Bolton struggled to find attacking fluency and now fall to 20th in the Championship, two places above the relegation zone, having taken six points from a possible 33.
The hosts rarely penetrated Hull's back-line at the University of Bolton Stadium, striker Clayton Donaldson missing their only guilt-edged chance after hitting the side-netting when through on goal.
The Trotters had collected 10 of their 16 points so far this season after four matches and were third in the Championship table at that point. But 10 games later, they find themselves falling towards the division's bottom three.
Hull, who won at Bolton for the first time since March 1935, could have doubled their lead through Grosicki in the second half. But his effort from 20 yards was well saved by Wanderers keeper Ben Alnwick.
The Tigers comfortably held on to their one-goal lead to record their third win of the Championship campaign and ease the pressure on manager Adkins.

"We had enough chances to get something from the game, but we can't keep missing the target.
"We got in some great positions, but we were lacking that moment of quality - but that will come.
"The only way to turn this club round is, from top to bottom, to stick together. As a manager, when you are not winning games, the pressure is on you.
"I'll keep my counsel, but I'm absolutely delighted with the job I've done at this football club."
Hull City manager Nigel Atkins told BBC Radio Humberside:
"It was a good three points, it's only what we deserved. Over a period of time, we have been doing really well.
"We knew it was going to be a competitive game, a challenging game.
"It proved to be that way, but we have seen the spirit of the players, they all had a right good go for each other and we have come away with a clean sheet, [and] a valuable three points."
