Sam Ricketts: 'A lot of making up' for him to stay at Wrexham - Barrow

Wrexham assistant manager Graham Barrow believes "there is a lot of making up to do" if manager Sam Ricketts is to stay in charge.

BBC Radio Shropshire reports former Wales defender Ricketts is "close" to taking over at League One Shrewsbury.

Wrexham responded by asking Ricketts to stay away from Saturday's 0-0 FA Cup second round draw against Newport.

The replay date is scheduled for Tuesday, 11 December at Rodney Parade (19:45 GMT).

Barrow says Ricketts was "indecisive" over his future in a phone call.

Barrow was asked if the situation means Ricketts' time in charge at The Racecourse Ground is over.

He replied: "Obviously you hope not, but you wonder has it gone too far?

"I don't know, that's between Sam and the club now. There will have to be a lot of making up to be done."

Fellow assistants Jussi Jaaskelainen and Carl Darlington joined Barrow in taking charge of Saturday's cup tie.

Barrow said the build-up was "difficult" for the Wrexham players.

"They're puzzled as much as anything," he said. "There were blank looks on their faces. A bit down.

"We had a little bit of work to do in terms of lifting them, but nobody's died. You have to get on with the job. It's all about the club at the end of the day. The politics can sort itself out."

Wrexham issued a statement on Saturday morning revealing that Ricketts had been told not to attend the game against Newport County.

The Dragons hope to "clarify" Ricketts' future "as soon as is possible".

Ricketts, 37, has led Wrexham to third in the National League after becoming manager in May.
