Macclesfield Town 2-1 Oldham Athletic

  • Published

Macclesfield recovered from the worst possible start to see off Oldham at Moss Rose.

Latics raced out of the blocks, and with less than 15 seconds played, Miles Welch-Hayes' hand blocked Callum Lang's shot.

Goalkeeper Kieran O'Hara got plenty on debutant Urko Vera's spot-kick, but the ball rebounded in off the crossbar.

Macclesfield will have been pleased with their first-half performance, even more so in stoppage-time when Harry Smith beat Dan Iverson from the edge of the box.

The Silkmen found a winner early in the second half as Scott Wilson nipped between defender and goalkeeper and produced a neat chip to put the hosts 2-1 ahead.

Michael Rose fired over and Tyrone Marsh was denied by Iverson's save before Gevaro Nepomaceno almost snatched a point for Oldham when he crashed a last-minute shot against O'Hara's crossbar.

Mohamed Maouche was dismissed for Oldham in time added on as Macclesfield held on for victory.
