Milton Keynes Dons 0-1 Crewe Alexandra

MK Dons failed to keep up the pace with their promotion rivals after falling to a narrow defeat at home to Crewe.

Charlie Kirk's winner separated the two sides as Crewe recorded just their second away league victory of the season.

Dons goalkeeper Lee Nicholls did well to get down and keep Perry Ng's effort out early in the first half, while at the other end, Ben Garratt pulled off a fantastic save to deny Crewe old boy Chuks Aneke as he bore down on goal.

The hosts thought they had the lead when Peter Pawlett found the net, but his effort was disallowed for offside.

Crewe then took full advantage just two minutes later when the Dons were caught on the counter-attack and Kirk finished powerfully past Nicholls to cap a great move.

The hosts pushed for an equaliser when Alex Gilbey was played in by Kieran Agard, only to be foiled by Garratt, while Nicholls kept out James Jones' audacious chip at the other end.

Substitute Tommy Lowery had Nicholls scrambling to palm his cross-shot over shortly after coming on.

Crewe boss David Artell was booked for the fourth time this season for remonstrating with the fourth official.
