Referee Graham Salisbury shows a straight red card to Ryan Inniss

Carlisle United climbed two places to 18th in League Two as they beat 10-man Newport County.

Defender Ryan Inniss was sent off as the visitors slumped to their sixth consecutive away league loss.

Carlisle already had control and were leading 2-0 when Inniss, on loan from Crystal Palace, was given a straight red by referee Graham Salisbury.

Former Wrexham loanee Omari Patrick gave Carlisle an early lead and Josh Kayode scored from the penalty spot.

Inniss was dismissed for the second time this season after a rash challenge on Kayode just before half-time.

Patrick headed home a fifth-minute corner and Kayode, on loan from Rotherham, scored a penalty after Dale Gorman had brought down Jack Bridge.

Newport substitute Joss Labadie was off target with two chances in the second half and Wales squad goalkeeper Tom King in good form to help prevent Carlisle adding to their tally.

Newport boss Michael Flynn told BBC Sport Wales:

"It was a sloppy start. Gave a set-play away so after five minutes all the hard work, the preparation is put on the backburner.

"I didn't think it was a penalty and I wasn't sure it was a red card either. There was no two-footed challenge. I'll have to watch it again in full screen, but I wasn't convinced at the time.

"We're trying every single thing [to turn around away form] that we can think of and everything that everybody else has thought of and it's really frustrating because the away form has killed us."
