McGeouch meets up with Aberdeen before Dubai trip

Aberdeen have completed the signing of Scotland midfielder Dylan McGeouch from Sunderland, with the 26-year-old signing a two-and-a-half year contract.

McGeouch, who began his career with Celtic, left Hibernian to move to England in summer 2018 but has not played since mid-November.

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes had been pressing for a permanent deal rather than a loan.

"He's a player I've admired for a considerable period," he said.

"I'm looking forward to getting him integrated as part of the squad. We've struggled with injuries in the midfield and bringing in a player of his ability will reinforce that area of the team and will benefit us greatly."

McGeouch, who has two international caps, will now travel with the rest of the Dons squad to their winter training camp in Dubai during the Scottish Premiership's January break.

The midfielder made 42 appearances for Sunderland, helping them reach the promotion play-off final last season, but only 12 of them came this season and only five of those were starts in League One.

McGeouch told Aberdeen's website: "We had a lot of highs and lows last season and I've had some great memories there and met a lot of good people, but it's been a frustrating last few months.

"It's been a mad few days, but I'm delighted to finally get up here, get everything sorted and look forward to the future."

McGeouch, who hopes to rekindle his Scotland career, recalled that McInnes had been in contact with him to express and interest before he joined Sunderland.

"I had my heart set on going down to England for a few years, but when I heard he was back interested I was delighted and finally we get to work together," he added.
