Cambridge United 0-4 Salford City

  • Published

Cambridge's dismal form continued against Salford with a second successive 4-0 home defeat.

Adam Rooney scored twice while Ashley Hunter and Ibou Touray were on target as the visitors secured their biggest win in the English Football League.

Paul Lewis missed a glorious chance for the U's in the 29th minute when heading off target from the edge of the six-yard box.

Salford took the lead three minutes later with their first notable chance, with Bruno Andrade getting in behind the home defence on the right wing and crossing for Rooney, who got in front of his man to fire home.

Seven minutes into the second half Rooney netted his second from the penalty spot after Greg Taylor was penalised for a trip on Brandon Thomas-Asante, and three minutes later the game was over.

Substitute Liam Hogan's ball into the box dropped to Hunter, who hooked a fine finish into the far corner.

And two minutes from time Touray's ball from the left flew in beyond Dimitar Mitov at his near post to condemn Cambridge to their seventh defeat in nine matches.
