Cambridge United 1-2 Carlisle United
- Published
Carlisle earned their first win in a month with a 2-1 success at in-form Cambridge United.
Lewis Alessandra's 27th-minute opener was added to by Nick Anderton in the second half.
Reggie Lambe pulled one back with eight minutes left for the hosts, who had been unbeaten in five League Two games.
The Cumbrians spurned a great opportunity to take an early lead after 12 minutes when Alessandra forced Callum Burton into a low save and Jon Mellish somehow fired the rebound wide in front of an open goal.
The visitors did get the opener when Elliot Watt's delivery found Harry McKirdy and his shot hit Kyle Knoyle before falling to Alessandra who fired into the far corner on the turn.
Carlisle doubled their lead in the 73rd minute when Aaron Hayden knocked a free-kick down to Byron Webster, whose effort was well saved by Burton but fell to Anderton to tap in.
The hosts set up a tense finale when Harry Darling found substitute Lambe, who lashed home from just inside the box.
And the U's almost snatched a point in added time but Samir Carruthers was denied by Carlisle goalkeeper Adam Collin.
