FC Halifax Town 1-0 Sutton United

  • Published

Devante Rodney scored a late winner for Halifax as they climbed to third in the National League standings after a 1-0 win over Sutton.

Rodney scored a penalty in the 88th minute for the Shaymen, who leapfrogged Boreham Wood and Yeovil in the standings. Sutton remained in 15th place, five points clear of the relegation zone.

The first half was very open but neither side could make the breakthrough at The Shay.

Jack Redshaw saw his strike go wide and Danny Williams could not get onto the end of Rodney's ball as the hosts had the best of the chances.

The match looked to be heading for a stalemate before Rodney's late intervention, which left Halifax in a strong position with a game in hand on their closest rivals.
