Manchester City want £30m for 19-year-old defender Eric Garcia, who has been linked with a move to Barcelona.

City manager Pep Guardiola revealed on Thursday that Garcia had told the Blues he did not want to sign an extension to his contract, which has one year to go.

But City are prepared to keep the Spaniard for the final year unless they receive a suitable offer.

"He has told us he does not want to extend," said Guardiola. "I imagine he wants to play in another place."

Garcia ended the last league campaign as the first-choice partner for Aymeric Laporte in central defence.

The club's stance is the same one they took with Leroy Sane earlier this summer. Sane eventually left for Bayern Munich for a total fee of £54.8m.

City acknowledge that any buying club would want to include significant incentive bonuses for the fee to rise to £30m.

The club believe Garcia could still be persuaded to sign a new deal and he may yet start Friday's Champions League last-16 second leg with Real Madrid at Etihad Stadium.
