Arbroath beat Ayr United to move off the bottom of the Scottish Championship

Arbroath moved off the bottom after beating Ayr United for a first Scottish Championship win of the season.

James Craigen scored twice within two minutes as the home side were rewarded for a dominant first half.

The midfielder powered in a header at the back post then swept in a Dale Hilson cross.

Ayr's Michael Moffat was denied by a post after the break and Jack Baird's header from a Joe Chalmers corner came too late to inspire a comeback.

Arbroath move into second bottom, a point above Queen of the South, while Ayr remain fifth.
