Nathanael Ogbeta: Shrewsbury Town sign Manchester City left-back
- Published
Shrewsbury Town have signed left-back Nathanael Ogbeta from Manchester City on an 18-month deal.
The 19-year-old, who can also play at centre-back, had been with Premier League side City since the age of 10.
England Under-20 international Ogbeta is yet to make his senior club debut, but has made 12 EFL Trophy appearances for City's Under-23s.
He is Town's fourth January signing following David Davis, and loan men Harry Chapman and Matthew Pennington.
But the club have announced that they will not be extending the contract of defenders Charlie Daniels and Marc Pugh.
Both arrived in October on short-term deals until the end of January.
They will follow Australian defender Matt Millar who has already ended his short-term loan to return down under to Newcastle Jets.
How Covid hit Shrewsbury
Shrewsbury are 17th in the League One table, having had a run of just one loss in nine games following the arrival of new boss Steve Cotterill.
But they have lost their last two games since a Covid outbreak at the Shropshire club, which caused a succession of postponements and culminated with Cotterill ending up briefly in intensive care in hospital.
He was forced to watch last Tuesday night's delayed FA Cup third-round tie at Southampton on TV from his hospital bed. - the club's first game this year.
Cotterill has not yet returned to the training ground, having also missed Saturday's 1-0 defeat at one of his former clubs Sunderland.
But this Tuesday's game at Burton is off, because of Covid symptoms at the Staffordshire club.
Shrewsbury are not scheduled to play again until they host Peterborough United this Saturday.
