Jordan Morris: Swansea forward to miss rest of season with knee injury

Swansea City forward Jordan Morris will miss the rest of the season after sustaining a knee ligament injury.

The United States international, who is on loan from Seattle Sounders, left the field on a stretcher during the Swans' 4-1 loss at Huddersfield on Saturday.

"Everything we hoped it wasn't, unfortunately it is," said Swansea head coach Steve Cooper.

"It's the end of his season with us and a long road back to recovery for him. Very cruel."

Cooper added: "It's a cruel injury anyway but in the circumstances of him fulfilling an ambition of coming to play in Europe, and embracing and being part of we are trying to do here, including really enjoying being around the city, it is a really tough one for him and us to take.

"He has our support, the next steps in terms of his recovery, I am not quite sure about in terms of whether it will be here or back in the USA. Those discussions are ongoing.

"But first and foremost we are gutted for him."

Swansea, who are fourth in the Championship, signed Morris on loan in January with an option to make the transfer permanent.

The 26-year-old was brought in as a replacement for Viktor Gyokeres, who was recalled from his loan by Brighton.

Morris, who previously suffered a serious knee injury while playing for Seattle in 2018, made four substitute appearances for Swansea in the Championship and one start in the FA Cup.

"It's obviously a blow to us because he was just about getting up to speed of pushing to get into the team after a spell of getting fit because he had come straight from an off-season," said Cooper.

"So it is really unfortunate in many ways. One thing I will say about Jordan is he is obviously a good player, an excellent professional.

"He is a really good person, and really commits to his profession. I know he will commit to his recovery 100% and come back strong."

Swansea's defeat at Huddersfield was their first in 10 Championship outings, with their goal tally largely down to the nine goals each from wide forwards Andre Ayew and Jamal Lowe.

Cooper said: "Everyone knows we haven't had a striker all season and we have found a formula to play.

"We haven't had a number nine all season and didn't bring one in January either. But that is fine, circumstances haven't changed apart from the fact of Jordan not being available now.

"But now it's about next man up, not letting it interfere with our season, our progress and our journey and treat it as part of the journey.

"We have a load of games coming up and ones we want to and will be ready for."

Swansea play Coventry City on Wednesday and have a doubt over defender Ryan Bennett, who went off at half-time at Huddersfield with a calf injury.
