Notts County 1-0 Wrexham: Mark Ellis goal gives Burchnall first win

  • Published

Ian Burchnall claimed a first victory as Notts County boss as Mark Ellis' goal saw off play-off rivals Wrexham.

Defender Ellis touched the ball home after Connell Rawlinson headed Jordan Barnett's corner into his path.

Wrexham saw their seven-game unbeaten run come to an end after missing a handful of early chances, with Dior Angus forcing a save from Sam Slocombe.

Notts striker Kyle Wootton was sent off in the closing stages after receiving a second booking.

Wrexham were without top scorer Kwame Thomas after he was ruled out for the rest of the season, while fellow forward Jordan Ponticelli limped off before the break.

Elliott Durrell saw a shot ricochet narrowly wide of the hosts' goal, while home appeals for handball in the penalty area were turned down after Wootton's header deflected over.

Burchnall's first Notts County win - in his third game in charge - saw his team climb to fourth in the National League table, while Wrexham drop to sixth.
