Liam Walsh: Swansea City sign ex-Bristol City midfielder on free transfer
- Published
Swansea City have signed midfielder Liam Walsh on a three-year contract.
The 23-year-old was a free agent having been released by Bristol City at the end of last season.
Former England Under-18 international Walsh failed to agree a new deal with the Robins, with injuries restricting his playing time at Ashton Gate.
Walsh is Swansea's third signing of the summer after they sealed deals for strikers Joel Piroe and Kyle Joseph.
Swansea head coach Steve Cooper was in need of midfield reinforcement after Conor Hourihane returned to Aston Villa following a loan spell.
Walsh had been on the club's radar last year and the Swans made their move once it became apparent he would leave Bristol City, two-and-a-half years on from his switch from Everton, where he had progressed through the youth ranks.
The Liverpool-born player made a total of 22 appearances for Bristol City - including just three outings last season after thigh and hamstring issues - and enjoyed a successful season-long at Coventry City in 2019-20.
Swansea remain keen to add a centre-back having seen Marc Guehi return to Chelsea after an extended loan stay at the Liberty Stadium.
There has been interest in Burnley's James Dunne, who is out of contract at Turf Moor, although Swansea would need to agree a compensation fee with the Clarets for the 23-year-old.
