Bristol Rovers have signed Rotherham United defender Trevor Clarke and Wales Under-21 midfielder Sion Spence on a season-long loan from Crystal Palace.

Clarke, 23, has joined on a 12-month deal for an undisclosed fee with Rovers having an option for another year.

Spence, 20, has yet to feature for the Palace first team, having moved to the club in September last year after beginning his career at Cardiff City.

He scored seven goals in 15 games for Palace's under-23 side last season.

Clarke, who moved to the Millers from Shamrock Rovers in 2019, has been capped at under-21 level by the Republic of Ireland and played in the Europa League.

He played nine times in the Championship for Rotherham last season.

"It's important to recruit players on ability and character and he's a great addition in both areas," Rovers manager Joey Barton told the club website., external

"His legs and high energy will be vital to our team and it's a bonus that he joins us early in pre-season, so he can quickly get acquainted with us, what we are trying to do and get to know his new team-mates ahead of the new campaign.

"Sion is highly rated at Crystal Palace, where he played as an attacking midfielder, scoring and creating goals," added Barton.

"We are hopeful he can come here, make the transition into senior football and have a positive season with us."
