John Eustace: Queens Park Rangers assistant boss snubs Swansea City manager offer

Former midfielder John Eustace played almost 450 senior games before his career was curtailed by injury

John Eustace has turned down the chance to become Swansea City's new manager.

The Championship club had been confident the Queens Park Rangers assistant boss would take charge at the Liberty Stadium following the departure of Steve Cooper.

But Eustace has had a change of heart and the 41-year-old told Swansea he does not want the job.

MK Dons manager Russell Martin and ex-Chelsea assistant boss Jody Morris could now come into the frame.

But Swansea must now restart their search for a boss with the new season less than a fortnight away.

The Welsh club had expected former Kidderminster Harriers boss Eustace to tie up his switch to Wales following QPR's friendly win over Manchester United on Saturday.

However, Eustace is thought to have contacted Swans chief executive Julian Winter on Sunday to tell him the move was off.

Swansea have a long-standing interest in Lincoln manager Michael Appleton, although he revealed earlier this month that he was taking time off for treatment having been diagnosed with testicular cancer.
