Grimsby Town 3-1 Wrexham: Ryan Taylor sets Mariners on course

Grimsby continued their unbeaten start to the season as they inflicted a first loss of the campaign on Wrexham.

Wrexham took the lead when Jake Hyde collected Luke Young's ball down the middle before finishing in style.

Grimsby complained of a foul on Ryan Taylor in the build-up, but the forward soon had them level as he turned in Erico Sousa's cross.

The home side hit the front when Luke Waterfall headed in a corner, before Max Wright's breakaway sealed victory.

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson said:

"We got off to a great start... scored a terrific goal and the two goals we conceded, the first one we got done with a give and go but the second one, a free header in the middle of our box, is disappointing to say the least.

"Ultimately games are won and lost in both boxes and when we put it on their box it came out, and they had a free header from a wide free-kick and a free header from a corner that decided the game. The third goal obviously we're chasing the game and that happens, you get done on the break sometimes.

"The second goal in particular was disappointing for us, because we were right in the game, it was nip and tuck, there wasn't a lot in it - there were two decent teams on show - but ultimately you've got to head the ball out the box when it comes in."
