Maidenhead United 3-2 Wrexham: Hollywood owners see Dragons lose

Wrexham co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney watched their team for the first time as they fell to defeat at Maidenhead United.

The Hollywood stars saw the home side go 2-0 ahead through goals from Kane Ferdinand and Jay Mingi.

Wrexham's Bryce Hosannah was sent-off before Paul Mullin pulled a goal back on the stroke of half time.

Jordan Davies brought the visitors level early in the second half but Josh Kelly restored the home side's lead.

Reynolds and McElhenney's presence caused much excitement among the crowd of just over 1,600 but there was plenty of drama on the pitch.

Ferdinand's header from a cross and on-loan Portsmouth midfielder Mingi's finish saw Alan Devonshire's side 2-0 up inside the opening 22 minutes.

Hosannah was shown a straight red card for his challenge on Mingi but 10-man Wrexham were back in the game at the end of the half with Mullin netting his 10th of the season from Davies' free-kick.

Davies equalised with a low drive and Wrexham pushed for a third but Kelly found the bottom right hand corner of the net for Maidenhead's winner with 15 minutes remaining.

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson said:

"How we haven't got anything out of it, I'm baffled with that really. The early exchanges were ok but then we conceded two soft goals but always felt we could get something even at 2-0 down.

"Obviously with 10 men it makes it difficult but we got back in it and said to the lads at half time 'I'm not expecting you to draw, I'm expecting you to win it.'

"We got the goal back, dominated the game and then the only real moment they had in the second period and it's cost us a point at the very least.

"It's very frustrating for us because the lads have done everything to get back into the game but we've got to be honest that we've conceded cheap goals.

"They [Reynolds and McElhenney] have seen a team that's given everything.

"They fought every inch of the way and there's nothing wrong with the strength and determination and the togetherness of in the group."
