Greenock Morton 2-2 Ayr United: Gus MacPherson sacked after Gozie Ugwu brace earns draw

  • Published

Greenock Morton manager Gus MacPherson was sacked after a draw with Ayr United left his side joint bottom of the Scottish Championship.

Gozie Ugwu headed the hosts in front and they held that lead until the final 17 minutes, when Steven Bradley and Tomi Adeloye put Ayr ahead.

Ugwu nodded the Greenock side level but, while the draw was enough to prevent them finishing the day in bottom spot, they are only in front of Dunfermline Athletic and Queen of the South on goal difference.

"We would like to thank Gus for his efforts and hard work during his time at the club and wish him all the best for the future," read a Morton statement. "The club will provide a further update in the coming days."

Ayr, meanwhile, are a point ahead in seventh.
