Queen of the South 3-0 Ayr United: Impressive hosts breeze past visitors for first win in 10

  • Published

Queen of the South comfortably beat Ayr United to secure their biggest Scottish Championship win since 2019.

Euan East opened the scoring by volleying in Lee Connelly's corner for his first goal of the season.

Connelly was provider again when he crossed for Innes Cameron to head excellently past Aiden McAdams.

After the break, Calvin McGrory threaded a beautiful pass through for Josh Todd, who rolled the ball inside the near post from 10 yards.

Ayr United had Tomi Adeloye's equaliser ruled out for offside in the first half, and Cameron Salkeld cracked the crossbar in the second.

But Queen of the South, securing their first league win in 10 attempts, dominated and could have added more goals.

Queen of the South assistant manager Sandy Clark: "The performance was different class. The result is the most important thing but the performance being as good as that from start to finish is a big bonus. The confidence within the team is good."

Ayr United manager Jim Duffy: "I'm really angry. We just didn't turn up. We lost a soft goal and then we were on the back foot. There were very few players in our team who deserve any credit today. There were far too many off the pace."
