Courtney Baker-Richardson has scored in back-to-back League Two games

Courtney Baker-Richardson's second-half strike was enough to secure Newport County victory in a game in which both teams missed penalties.

Mickey Demetriou hit the post from 12 yards after Oliver Cooper was fouled in the area.

Baker-Richardson headed home Cooper's free-kick early in the second half.

And after Luke Matheson was fouled in the Newport box, Nick Townsend denied Myles Hippolyte's penalty to earn the visitors all three points.

Victory moves Newport up to fifth in League Two, while Scunthorpe's struggles continue and they remain a point off bottom of the league Oldham.

Newport boss James Rowberry:

"I think we had 25 shots at goal and they had six; obviously missed a penalty as well, but I'm pleased with the performance because it's back-to-back wins, it's two clean sheets.

"We showed our robustness, our industriousness if you like to do the dirty side of the game, which we've proved in the last two games."
