Pep Guardiola talks to Finley Burns during Manchester City's 6-1 win over Wycombe in September 2021

Swansea City have signed Manchester City centre-back Finley Burns on loan for the rest of the season.

Burns, 18, has made one senior appearance under Pep Guardiola, in the EFL Cup in September 2021.

The 6ft 5in England Under-18 international has come through the ranks at City after joining from Southend when aged 13.

"Finley Burns is a really, really excellent prospect," said Swansea boss Russell Martin.

Burns' move to Wales has allowed Swansea to send another defender, Brandon Cooper, on loan to League Two club Swindon Town for the rest of the season.

"I think it works well for us, works well for Manchester City and works well for the players. Hopefully we'll all benefit from it," added Martin.

Burns signed a new deal at the Etihad Stadium which runs until 2027 earlier this month.

Centre-back Rhys Williams returned to parent-club Liverpool earlier this month having struggled for game-time during a loan spell with the Swans.
