Huddersfield Town extended their unbeaten Championship run to 11 matches as they held out for a goalless draw at Preston.
Town goalkeeper Lee Nicholls made a fine save from Ched Evans' strike after good work from Daniel Johnson and Cameron Archer before the break.
Chances remained scarce after the interval despite a fast start from the Lilywhites, although Nicholls again saved smartly, this time from Archer.
The Terriers keeper then produced another fine stop deep into stoppage time to keep out an Emil Riis strike.
A tight match was perhaps expected between two sides who are proving tough to beat - Preston have now lost just once in 10 league matches since Ryan Lowe took charge in December, while the Terriers are unbeaten in 13 matches in all competitions.
Preston had the better of a tight first half low on chances, with neither goalkeeper called into action until Nicholls denied Evans three minutes before the break and then kept out Sepp van den Berg's left-footed shot.
The second half opened up, but chances remained at a premium, with Preston having penalty appeals waved away when Riis looked to have been tripped.
Huddersfield mustered just one shot on target, when North End keeper Daniel Iversen comfortably held a Daniel Sinani shot, as both sides chalked up a third straight clean sheet.
Preston remain within four points of the play-off places, in 12th, after a fifth draw in eight matches, while Huddersfield stay fifth, six points behind second-placed Bournemouth.
Preston North End manager Ryan Lowe told BBC Radio Lancashire:
"It was a definite penalty, but sometimes you get them and sometimes you don't. I thought the performance, especially second half, warranted three points.
"To limit them to one shot on target was good on our behalf, but we needed a little bit of luck at the top end - we had so many chances, created so many opportunities.
"I thought all the lads were terrific, every single one, and the work-rate was phenomenal. That's what we want, but I just want a bit more belief."
Huddersfield head coach Carlos Corberan told BBC Radio Leeds:
"We cannot say we are satisfied with a point, but I don't think we did enough things to take the three points. We should have attacked more. We didn't attack with enough consistency.
"I cannot give you an answer (on play-off chances). We still need to improve in the games to be a more competitive team and today was one perfect example that we need to do more.
"But at the same time watching the mentality of the players I am very proud."
