Arbroath 1-0 Ayr United: Home side keep pressure on at top of Championship
- Published
Arbroath kept up the pressure on Scottish Championship leaders Kilmarnock as they beat Ayr United, who finished with 10 men at Gayfield.
Jack Hamilton had an early goal ruled out for offside, but did break the deadlock with a header.
Ayr goalkeeper Aidan McAdams made big saves from Michael McKenna and Luke Donnelly as the hosts pressed for more.
But Ayr finished the game with 10 men after striker Sam Ashford was sent off for a rash challenge on Jason Thomson.
It keeps Arbroath two points behind Kilmarnock, while eight-placed Ayr remain six points clear of the bottom two, albeit it having played a game more than bottom-club Dunfermline.
