Oli Shaw netted a second-half penalty as Scottish Championship leaders Kilmarnock hit back for a point at Greenock Morton.

Kilmarnock were seeking a fifth straight win but ought to have fallen behind when Cameron Blues fired a glaring chance wide from 10 yards.

Morton found a deserved breakthrough when Gozie Ugwu met Iain Wilson's cross with an unerring back-post header.

But the lead lasted just five minutes as Shaw scored his 12th of the season.

The striker, who earlier sent a cushioned volley narrowly over, made no mistake from the spot after Fraser Murray's shot hit the arm of Brian McLean.

Kilmarnock extend their unbeaten league run to eight and are now five points clear of Arbroath having played a game more.

Seventh-place Morton's already slim promotion play-off hopes look over with fourth-top Partick Thistle eight points ahead with a game in hand.

Morton manager Dougie Imrie: "Absolutely baffling [penalty decision], I don't even know what he's seen. It's a big decision that cost us three points tonight.

"That's a team that is probably going to go on and win the league and we more than matched them."

Kilmarnock manager Derek McInnes: "In the laws of the game now it's a stonewall penalty. Morton were good and we knew the type of game it was going to be.

"They asked a question of us and you can see why they're unbeaten here under Dougie. It keeps our unbeaten run going too, there are no easy fixtures in this league."
