Matt Done's goal set Rochdale on their way to a final day victory at Newport County, whose late-season struggles see them end in 11th place.

Ethan Brierley's lovely through ball allowed Done to beat the Exiles offside trap and fire past Nick Townsend.

Newport came close to equalising before half-time when Finn Azaz hit the post after combining with Dom Telford.

A late second from Abraham Odoh, finding the near bottom corner, ensured Rochdale finished in 18th.

The game was held up briefly in the first half when referee Lee Swabey had to be replaced by fourth official Simon Shaw after picking up an injury.

Newport County manager James Rowberry:

"You look at moments in that game today, we produced some really good moments but just didn't take the chances and score.

"And then defensively as a team we need to be better, but from next season's viewpoint I'm looking forward to it.

"I've got to learn now from certain elements, players have got to learn, we've all got to learn as a staff and as a football club what we need to do to move this club forward."
