Craig Eastmond gave Sutton the perfect start by scoring early on

Goals from Craig Eastmond and Isaac Olaofe gave Sutton victory at Harrogate but they narrowly missed out on a play-off place in their first season in the Football League.

Sutton had to win and hope Mansfield, Port Vale or Swindon slipped up, but they all got the results they needed.

It meant the south London side finished where they began the final day, in eighth.

Eastmond poked in the loose ball after Omar Bugiel's header hit the bar - his first league goal of the campaign.

And Olaofe sealed the win with a late right-footed strike from near the edge of the penalty area.

After skipper Eastmond's opener, the hosts almost equalised when a corner was headed against the bar by Rory McArdle.

Olaofe headed against the post after being found by Eastwood shortly before the interval, and a second-half effort by Bugiel also hit the woodwork before Olaofe doubled the lead.

Sutton's hopes of snatching a top-seven finish were raised by Forest Green Rovers equalising against Mansfield, who held on for the point they needed to finish above the U's.
