Preston and Rotherham preserved their unbeaten league starts with an entertaining goalless draw at Deepdale.

Troy Parrott saw a shot saved by Millers keeper Viktor Johansson as Preston edged an entertaining first half.

And at the other end, Conor Washington went close for the visitors when his close-range strike was palmed away by Preston keeper Freddie Woodman.

Brad Potts crashed a spectacular dipping 25-yard effort against the bar on the hour, but the hosts could not turn their greater weight of chances into three points.

Unbeaten Preston, who have had three goalless draws in their opening four Championship outings, have yet to concede a league goal, but their struggles to finish chances - a feature of last season - has seen them score just once in the Championship this campaign.

Tottenham loanee Parrott lit up an entertaining first half, teeing up Daniel Johnson who fired narrowly wide and twice having efforts blocked.

Preston had much the better of the opening half-hour, but the Millers responded well, with Washington rolling an effort inches wide before Cohen Bramall's headed effort kissed the post.

The hosts remained on top after the break, Andrew Hughes heading Robbie Brady's in-swinging cross over the bar before Alan Browne's turn and low shot forced another stop from Johansson.

Rotherham, who have conceded just once in two draws and a win this season, made block after block as the home side's frustration built, with both Ben Whiteman and Emil Riis denied late on by Johansson.

Preston boss Ryan Lowe told BBC Radio Lancashire:

"That's probably one of the best performances in my managerial reign really, but without the goals because everything we did was spot on. Everything we did was fantastic, but ultimately goals win you games.

"If we're not creating any chances and we're not getting through on goal that's a worry, but there isn't any worry there.

"Frustrating, yes. Would I have loved three points? A hundred percent would have, but it's the old cliche, if you can't win it, don't lose it."

Rotherham manager Paul Warne told BBC Radio Sheffield:

"Preston were the better side on the night. They had many opportunities to take the three points, but that doesn't take away from how dogged our performance was.

"The first half was reasonably equal. We had a couple of really good chances to score, as did they, but second half they dominated. We struggled to get out.

"There were some tired bodies at the end, but to hang on and keep a clean sheet away from home against a team who I think is going to be really up there, I'm really proud of them."
