Nahki Wells scored twice as Bristol City extended their unbeaten run in the Championship to six games with victory at Blackburn Rovers.
Forward Tommy Conway headed in his fourth of the season just before the break to put the visitors ahead.
Wells got his first early in the second half when he fired in from Andreas Weimann's cross, but Tyrhys Dolan pulled a goal back for Blackburn.
Wells bundled in to make it 3-1 and although Ben Brereton Diaz struck late on, Bristol City held on to go third in the table.
It was another impressive display by Bristol City, who make it back-to-back wins following their victory against Huddersfield in midweek.
After winning their first four games in all competitions this season, Blackburn have now won just two of their last six.
But it was always going to be tough against a Bristol City side who are in such good form.
On-loan Leicester striker George Hirst, who joined Blackburn on deadline day, almost enjoyed the perfect debut when he went close for the hosts early on, but his shot was parried.
From then on Bristol City dominated and ultimately deserved the victory despite Blackburn's late fightback.
Chile striker Brereton Diaz had been the subject of Premier League interest on transfer deadline day and he had been largely kept quiet before popping up with a consolation goal late on.
Blackburn boss Jon Dahl Tomasson told BBC Radio Lancashire:
"I think we should be disappointed with the result and performance. We know we played against a very good side on a good run but we know we can be very good and not passive if we play with few touches, which we didn't.
"It was a bit frustrating to concede two goals on counter-attacks but it is a young group going through a big transition and it will go like this throughout the year, up and down.
"Bristol City are in very good form but it was not that difficult for them today. We will review this and work hard next week to be better."
Bristol City boss Nigel Pearson told BBC Radio Bristol:
"It was another exciting performance where we created a lot of really good chances. We could have won it more comfortably but we didn't.
"I thought it was a good, dominant performance where we showed a lot of self-belief and it is a great result for us.
"We have found a system of playing which is working for us, the players all know it, even players who come in understand what is expected of them. We have a healthy competition in the squad and the hard work people have put in over a sustained period of time is baring fruit at last."
