Dundee and Greenock Morton remain level on points in mid-table after drawing in the Scottish Championship at Dens Park.
The home side had the better of the chances and Zak Rudden's effort came off a post.
The Dark Blues played the final 11 minutes with 10 players after Josh Mulligan was booked twice in quick succession.
Lee Ashcroft had a headed chance for Dundee in the last minute of regulation time but could not find the target.
Ayr, in fourth, fifth-placed Dundee and Morton in sixth are all on 18 points - two points off Partick Thistle and Queen's Park.
