Manager Jim Goodwin acknowledged the frustration of some Aberdeen fans at his defensive tactics in the defeat by Celtic on Saturday.

His team lost 1-0 to Ange Postecoglou's side but registered only two off target shots to the visitors' 33 in a heavily one-sided Pittodrie contest.

"Saturday's performance was one the fans are not used to seeing," said Goodwin of his team's cautious set-up.

"They made us aware what they thought of it, which is absolutely fine."

The Aberdeen boss, whose side were eventually undone by a late Callum McGregor strike, highlighted his team's scoring record at home, relative to others in the league, and expressed faith in his tactical ability.

"At home in the league, I think only Celtic and Rangers have been scoring more than us," said Goodwin.

"The fans pay good money to come and support their team and if they're not happy with what they've seen then they're fully entitled to express that opinion."

Earlier, Livingston manager David Martindale, whose team visit Celtic Park on Wednesday, expressed his support for Goodwin's tactics.

He said: "When did Celtic score? The 87th minute. So Jim was minutes away from a 0-0 draw. I wonder if there would have been so many berating him on social media then."

"It doesn't matter what shape [you play]. He [Jim Goodwin] genuinely went on the park with two strikers but you have to look at Celtic's dominance at certain times in the game.

"They did it against Real Madrid for a large majority of the Champions League game. They force you into a deep block with their style of play and the players they have.

"It's very, very harsh on the managers at times when fans are looking for you to be more aggressive. It's very difficult for you to implement your game against a top side."
