Carlisle are four points outside League Two's automatic promotion places with a game in hand

A goal either side of half time saw Carlisle keep pressure on League Two's automatic promotion places with victory over Newport.

Kristian Dennis poked the hosts ahead in first-half stoppage time after Newport failed to clear their lines in blustery conditions.

Dennis then turned provider as he found John-Kymani Gordon, who finished low past County keeper Joe Day.

Newport failed to find a response as they remain 18th, Carlisle stay fourth.

Newport boss Graham Coughlan:

"I thought the lads were excellent for 46 minutes. I thought our game plan, our set up, everything about us was really, really positive, really good and then we pressed the self-implode button.

"We can't legislate for individual errors. We just have to try and pick the lads up and go again.

"They've been working really, really hard for us. They've been really, really trying hard and that will never be in question, but a couple of opportunities fell our way and we didn't take them."
