Barrow have said they will complain after their home game with Salford was among 24 matches postponed across the English Football League and National League because of frozen pitches.

Fourteen of Saturday's EFL games and 10 in the National League were called off.

Barrow said referee Sam Barrott called off the League Two visit of Salford shortly before 13:00 GMT despite the Holker Street pitch being "soft".

The Bluebirds said they had questioned why the match had been postponed.

"Despite a soft playing surface, referee Sam Barrott has taken the decision to postpone this afternoon's game against Salford City," Barrow said in a statement., external

"The club can confirm that we have approached PGMOL and the EFL for a written statement to enquire as to why the game has been postponed, and to make an official complaint.

"The club would like to apologise to both Barrow and Salford City fans who travelled for the fixture, please understand this decision was entirely out of the club's hands and we were both confident and keen for the game to be played."

Blackpool's Championship match with Huddersfield at Bloomfield Road was the only match in the second tier to be forced off by the weather.

The League One fixtures at Bristol Rovers, Lincoln City, Morecambe and Peterborough were all postponed.

In League Two, just three matches survived the freeze - at Colchester, Hartlepool and Stevenage.

In the National League, matches at Boreham Wood, Chesterfield, Eastleigh, Halifax, Gateshead, Maidenhead, Oldham, Solihull, Woking and Yeovil were all off, with new dates yet to be confirmed.

Sunday's Women's Super League match between Tottenham and Leicester City has also been postponed because of a frozen pitch.

Elsewhere in sport, three of Saturday's horse racing meetings at Ascot, Haydock and Taunton were abandoned.
