Partick Thistle 0-1 Hamilton Academical: On-loan Newcastle United debutant Dylan Stephenson secures win

  • Published

Hamilton Academical remain four points adrift at the foot of the Scottish Championship despite Dylan Stephenson's debut winner against Partick Thistle.

The 20-year-old on-loan Newcastle United forward netted in a devastating counter-attack against the run of play, caressing the ball past Jamie Sneddon.

Thistle, who stay in fourth, missed a plethora of chances in both halves.

And defender Aaron Muirhead had a 90th-minute header nodded off the line by Tom Sparrow.

However, Arbroath's win away to Greenock Morton means the gap at the bottom remains despite Accies having recorded back-to-back league wins for the first time this season.

Partick Thistle manager Ian McCall: "First half I thought we were terrific and totally dominated. There are one or two things that happened in the game that we are not particularly happy about, but we can't change that now.

"We should be shooting more, we had so many crosses into the box and we need people in there."

Hamilton Academical manager John Rankin: "The first half is not acceptable. I was raging and the players knew that but fair play to them, they put it right in the second.

"We changed things at half-time and I thought the boys were a credit to themselves - I'm over the moon for Dylan Stephenson."
