Australia midfielder James Jeggo has joined Hibernian on an 18-month deal, subject to international clearance.

The 30-year-old arrives from Belgian club Eupen for an undisclosed fee.

Jeggo won the Austrian Cup with Sturm Graz in 2018 and has also played in Greece with Aris.

"Jimmy is a very good communicator, will help our organisation both with and without the ball, and will aid the solidarity of the team," Hibs manager Lee Johnson told his club website.

"He's mobile, a good athlete, and is technically good. You need players like him in a successful team. He will bring extra experience to the squad, and we look forward to working with him."

Jeggo has been capped 15 times by the Socceroos and was involved in their qualifying campaign for the World Cup in Qatar but did not make the squad for the finals.

He played 15 times - 12 of them starts - this season for Eupen, who currently sit 15th, one place above the relegation zone, in the Jupiler Pro League and started their midweek draw away to Leuven.

Jeggo spent two seasons in Belgium, having started his career with Melbourne Victory before moves to Adelaide United, Sturm, Austria Vienna and Aris.

Hibs are still awaiting international clearance in order to include him in their squad for Sunday's Scottish Cup fourth-round derby with city rivals Heart of Midlothian.

Meanwhile, the Scottish Premiership club are considering an offer from Blackburn Rovers for Scotland defender Ryan Porteous.
