Mickey Demetriou scored after five minutes of added time to earn Newport County a dramatic win at 10-man Barrow.

Offrande Zanzala thought he had given Newport a first-minute lead, but his effort was ruled out for offside.

Barrow's Elliot Newby saw deflected shot skim past the Newport post in the second half.

Barrow had Rory Feely sent off for a tackle on Adam Lewis late on, before Exiles defender Demetriou headed the winner in the 95th minute.

The hosts missed the chance to gain ground on the play-off places, while Newport remain 19th, but moved eight points clear of the relegation zone.

Newport manager Graham Coughlan:

"It was a satisfying win given the character, the resilience and mentality we have shown. I still believe there's a lot more to come from this group.

"I am delighted for Mickey Demetriou because he has had a tough couple of weeks and he has responded like a true captain.

"I am delighted for the lads in general. Overall they managed the game extremely well - a very professional performance. It was a real good team performance."
