Hull and Preston managed just four attempts on target between them at the MKM Stadium, all of which came from the hosts

Hull City failed to score at home for the first time since October as they played out a forgettable draw with fellow mid-table side Preston North End.

The Tigers had the better of possession and threatened more throughout, but clear chances were at minimum.

Ozan Tufan shot over before the break and Greg Docherty also went close for the hosts with a header on the resumption.

North End failed to register a single attempt on target, but were improved in the second half, with Troy Parrott and Brad Potts both wasting excellent opportunities.

Hull were looking for a third consecutive home victory, but while they kept a third successive clean sheet at the MKM Stadium, they struggled to break down a resolute Preston side.

After a perfectly observed minute's silence for the people affected by the earthquake in Turkey, the homeland of Hull owner Acun Ilicali, and Syria, a lively start saw Hull quickly get on top.

But opportunities were sparse, while the visitors barely threatened and did not once test home keeper Matt Ingram.

Tigers midfielder Dimitrios Pelkas was crowded out when well placed after some great work by Tufan, while Cyrus Christie sent a shot narrowly wide and Docherty forced keeper Freddie Woodman into a decent save.

Aside from wayward efforts by Parrott and Potts, Alan Browne also went close for Preston

And although they were unable to find a winner, the point means their tally of 28 on the road is double the 14 they have managed at home so far this season.

Preston boss Ryan Lowe:

"I thought a point was fair. We nearly nicked it, but you can't start games like we did in the first half.

"We had opportunities to win it but it's a good point in the grand scheme of things, away from home, to build on the point in midweek (against Luton) with 10 men.

"Second half was more like a Championship game and it was two teams who were trying to get three points. First half was nowhere near the levels from both teams and the second half was much better."

Hull City boss Liam Rosenior:

"I'm delighted because what I asked from the players was a positive reaction to what was, from a performance point of view, the first time and the only time since I've been at the club that we weren't at the right level. Today we were and that's really pleasing.

"I know it's frustrating and we want to win games of football, but you only win when you have a consistent level of performance.

"Some of our build-up from the back they couldn't live with and on another day I think we win the game and we're out of sight by half-time.

"I was surprised by the booing. I've spoken about how important togetherness is here and I'm surprised, I'll be honest.

"We weren't clinical in the first half. We were so much in the ascendency. We could have been 3-0 up and that's the frustration. Unfortunately we didn't have that final moment and that's frustrating because we had 80 or 90 per cent of our game."
