Dundee have moved to within a point of Scottish Championship leaders Queen's Park - having played a game fewer - after a thumping win against bottom club Hamilton Academical.

Alex Jakubiak tapped in to open the scoring before Ryan Sweeney's header, Lyall Cameron's close-range finish and Luke McCowan's low effort from the edge of the box made it four by half-time.

Cameron completed his hat-trick with a side-foot shot and a clever header and Kwame Thomas nodded in the seventh for his first goal for Dundee.

Gary Bowyer's side have won three of their last four matches and also have a game in hand over Queen's Park.

SPFL Trust Trophy winners Hamilton will be nursing their wounds after this sore defeat but they will take comfort from knowing they have two games in hand over fellow strugglers Cove Rangers.

Dundee manager Gary Bowyer: "When we first arrived at the club it was clear Lyall Cameron had this knack of arriving in the box at the right time, and scoring, so we're delighted for him and getting a header as well.

"We were terrific and I was really pleased with how clinical we were. We'll now go into next week with a lot of confidence."

Hamilton Academical manager John Rankin: "That's probably the most humiliating defeat we'll have in our careers. We didn't start well at all and it looked like a hangover from last week.

"We have a chance to bounce back on Tuesday and we have to take it."
