Summary

  • New Zealand win the toss and bat

  1. NZ 99-2published at 24 overs

    Plimmer 30, Devine 29

Would 250 be enough? South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt said this pitch will be good for chasing?

And, for me, it's about the pressure you're adding to your partner.

If you're scoring at three runs per over yourself then the batters at the other end are going to have to do a lot of heavy lifting to get anywhere near 250.

Why is everyone so obsessed with stroke rates? Plimmer doing just fine. 100 not out after 50, NZ 250 plus and very much in the driving seat?

I think Plimmer, now, will want to go again and try and get mid-off back. It gives her an easy rotation option.

  4. NZ 96-2published at 23 overs

    Plimmer 29, Devine 27

Ah this is nice from Georgia Plimmer. She has decide attacking the spin of Mlaba is the way to go.

First she uses her feet and takes two slightly awkwardly over extra cover but then she repeats the shot and times it perfectly down the ground for four.

Much better from the 21-year-old and a thumbs up from Devine at the non-striker's end which must feel like a warm hug.

  5. NZ 88-2published at 22 overs

Sophie Devine beating her thigh with a glove after this over, having been tied down by five consecutive delivery from Ayabonga Khaka. Khaka looks pleased with her work as she collects her cap.

We are getting a sense that Plimmer is becoming frustrated with the position she finds herself in.

  7. NZ 86-2published at 21 overs

    Plimmer 22, Devine 24

Sophie Devine has so much experience, this being her 300th international. The one thing she cannot do is allow the pressure from the other end to transfer onto her. Georgia Plimmer tries to use her feet in this over to Mlaba but only gets a thick edge.

There's been a noticeable increase in New Zealand's intent since drinks with their run rate for the past five overs at 6.4.

  9. NZ 82-2published at 20 overs

We're heading into that middle phase of the innings where more singles should be on offer to keep the score moving. Sophie Devine has the same score at Plimmer, despite batting for half of the deliveries.

  10. NZ 78-2published at 19 overs

    Plimmer 21, Devine 20

Georgia Plimmer has her first boundary for 10 overs. It comes after the introduction of spin for the first time through Nonkululeko Mlaba with Plimmer flicking a straighter ball down towards the brightly coloured seats at fine leg.

Indian stadiums do colour better than most.

  11. NZ 72-2published at 18 overs

    Plimmer 16, Devine 19

Sophie Devine is on the charge! This is more like it.

A flick through mid-wicket and then a textbook punch back past the stumps.

It's off Marizanne Kapp too - South Africa's trump card who has been brought back to try and dismiss the New Zealand skipper.

Devine looked a bit frustrated in her first seven balls.

  13. NZ 63-2published at 17 overs

    Plimmer 16, Devine 10

Finally a bit of impetus and it's no surprise it comes from the bat of Sophie Devine. A dismissive pull through mid-wicket forces Nadine de Klerk to alter her plans and the great New Zealander times a slower ball for four next up.

Devine scored a century in defeat against Australia. She's in form.

  14. NZ 54-2published at 16 overs

    Plimmer 16, Devine 1

I don't want to say this was a quiet over but I have been distracted by trying to explain to the older members of our desk the concept of 'pundit shoes'.

Nadine de Klerk enjoyed this one...

  17. drinks break

    Drinks - NZ 51-2published at 15 overs

Almost another! Georgia Plimmer, with 14 runs to her name from 45 deliveries, decides she has to have a swing but one chips the ball into the air. A fielder comes charging in off the extra cover boundary but cannot get there in time.

That's drinks with South Africa in control.

It feels like New Zealand are just plodding along, they might try and find higher risk options but South Africa are bowling really well.

  19. NZ 50-2published at 14 overs

Masabata Klaas has done it again. A run of dots - five on this time - and then a big wide delivery that beats Sinalo Jafta behind the stumps. Frustrating.

Sophie Devine is still waiting to face her first delivery.

  20. How's stat?!published at 11:27 BST

That is the first time Melie Kerr has been dismissed by Nadine de Klerk in ODIs.

It's a big wicket for South Africa as Kerr averages 47.3 in her eight previous ODI matches against South Africa.
