Dundee move to the top of the Scottish Championship on goal difference after a goalless draw with Arbroath.

Over 5,500 fans packed into Gayfield, with kick-off delayed five minutes to allow the large crowd to pile in.

The game itself could not match the atmosphere, and lacked end product.

Paul McMullan came closest for the visitors, clipping the crossbar with a sliced strike before Mikey McKenna fired a free-kick just wide of Adam Legzdins' goal.

Arbroath's unbeaten run stretches to seven games, with Dick Campbell's side remaining five points clear of bottom-side Cove Rangers.

Dundee, meanwhile, are level on points with Queen's Park but can open up a lead with their game in hand.

Arbroath assistant manager Ian Campbell: "I think everyone saw an Arbroath team really fighting for each other, well organised and professional. "The plaudits come to Arbroath today, we were tremendous. I'm so happy we done today what we've been doing since Christmas, we went about our business exceptionally."Dundee manager Gary Bowyer: "I thought first half we were the dominant team, we didn't have much to contend with and in the second half we showed some really qualities people maybe wouldn't have expected from us today."I don't look at the league table, there is still a long way to go, a lot of football to be played."
